Typology of relaxation: 10 types of thermal bath visitors

At this time of year in particular, the Thermal Römerbad is the perfect retreat for many people and an oasis of relaxation and well-being. The preferences of our thermal bath guests are just as varied as the reasons for visiting. For this blog article, we took a closer look at the colourful crowd of those seeking relaxation and discovered 10 characteristic types, which we would like to introduce to you here in good humour.

*Note: For your ease of reading, we’ve decided to use a gender-neutral form of expression that definitely includes all genders.

1. The relaxation seeker.

The relaxation seekers are the most common type and visit the thermal bath to switch off and leave the stress of everyday life behind them. The best way to do this is floating in the thermal water or flopping in a deckchair with a good book. They appreciate the tranquillity of the relaxation room and the relaxed atmosphere in the sauna area. In the water, the bubble lounger is their favourite spot, but they prefer to leave swimming laps of the pool to others.

2. The wellness expert.

They like to treat themselves to the full pampering programme – from sauna sessions to face masks and, of course, a full body massage. In between sessions, they enjoy relaxing in the whirlpool or on a lounger. Favourite accessory: the bathrobe. Life’s motto: Carpe Diem

3. The health guru.

For the health guru, the focus is not on relaxation but on physical well-being. They appreciate the healing effect of the thermal water and keep their body in tip-top shape by habitually visiting the sauna. Dipping in and out of the hot and cold water is part of their regular ritual and they always make sure they’re well hydrated. Because health is wealth!

4. The swimaholic.

Swimaholics really get their money’s worth in our five thermal pools and spend most of their time in the 34 °C warm thermal water. Their distinguishing feature: wrinkled skin. You won’t find them in a deckchair too easily. They’re in their element in the water.

5. The culinary connoisseur.

For them, the way to recovery is through the stomach! They are the connoisseur of therma bath visitors and also want to keep up their culinary fitness levels: a frequent guest at the Gellius restaurant or the sauna bar. After a session in the sauna or thermal pool, they like to treat themselves to what’s on offer.

6. The socialiser.

A visit to the thermal bath is a day out for them. In addition to their swimming gear, they always have a friend with them. Rarely seen alone, they enjoy chatting in the sauna and love to make a splash with others in the outdoor pool, all while taking in the view. True to the motto “Happiness is best when shared”, they like to give away thermal bath vouchers for romantic getaways for two.

7. Early birds and night owls.

Either first at the door, or last one out. For them, the best part of the day is starting off feeling relaxed or ending it in a cosy atmosphere. That’s why they deliberately choose to visit the spa in the quieter morning or evening hours, when there’s less hustle and bustle and they can get their lengths done in peace. The twilight is a wonderful place to relax – the perfect way to start or end the day!

8.  The one that’s always freezing.

You’ll usually catch them after a long day of skiing and they prefer to spend their time in warm thermal water or in the sauna. Goosebumps are their frequent companion and the cold pool is their nightmare. Their towel can never be toasty enough and you’ll never find them without their fluffy slippers.

9. The scrollzilla.

A slightly annoying species among spa guests: it’s the scrollzilla. Instead of switching off, they remain constantly glued to their phones, even in the spa. While other guests seek out peace and quiet, they’re sending loud voice notes or checking their DMs. The good news though is that here at the Thermal Römerbad, you can put your smartphone to one side, since phones are completely banned in the sauna area and must be switched to silent in the spa area. A digital detox does us all good!

10. The lounger reserver.

We all know them too well: the lounger reserver. They are the epitome of the opportunistic spa guest. Towel at the ready, they confidently select their lounger of choice – the perfect distance away from the toilets, saunas and snack area. Their towel stands guard for them while they immerse themselves in the world of the spa or sauna for what feels like an age. Because the best lounging spot is always kept for them.

Regardless of whether you fall into one of these categories or are in a league of your own altogether – it’s important to us that everyone finds their own place to relax and the right well-being offer at the Thermal Römerbad. And as always in life, when clashing characters come together in one place, the motto is: Serenity is bliss ;-)
